Darryl Franklin Shumaker

Darryl Franklin Shumaker was born August 18, 1947, in Hot Springs, to Hermon Hamilton Shumaker and Maxine Lucille Rodgers Shumaker and was baptized in August of 1960. He was a 1965 graduate of Watson Chapel High School and was drafted by the United States Army in 1966, to serve in Vietnam. Darryl was in Boot Camp in Fort Polk, LA, and was then sent to Bong Son Vietnam where he served as Military Police. After serving his time there, he was honorably discharged and came back to Pine Bluff and began his career in paint and auto body work and was also an instructor in auto body paint and repair at Tucker Prison.
Later on, Darryl became the body shop manager for Brown Motor Company and eventually for Wooley Gandy Dodge. After a number of years working for others, Darryl opened his own auto body repair shop, Pine Top Body Shop, and ran it until his retirement.
Darryl was always involved with things involving veterans, whether it was designing and assisting in the building of the Veteran's Memorial on Sheridan Road in White Hall, or his time spent assisting other veterans as a mentor or helping them navigate the process of obtaining various benefits. An avid motorcyclist, he was a member of the Condors M/C where he was an elder. On occasion, he could be found riding along with the Patriot Guard Riders in their service to our country. Better known by his road name as "LZ," he was the Sergeant of Arms of Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association 7-1 and later the Chapter Commander of 7-5. He was a lifetime member and local Commander of the D.A.V. When time allowed, Darryl loved drag racing, fishing and camping.
Darryl passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the V.A. Medical Center in Little Rock, at the age of 76. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Varner Victor Rodgers, Willie Inez Austin Rodgers, Aurthur Clinton Shumaker and Lucille McDonald Shumaker; brothers, Hermon Dean Shumaker and Larry Franklin Shumaker; sisters, Naomi Christine Shumaker Taylor and Brenda Fay Shumaker Neal Robertson; son, Mitchell Wade Shumaker; and a grandson, Ethan Traugott.
He is survived by his daughters, Traci Shumaker, Tiffini Traugott (Stan), and Emily Shumaker; his sons, Cyrus Shumaker (Shannon) and Clay Shumaker (Malina); his sister, Lucille Shumaker; four grandchildren, Haylee Moyers, Mitchell Ocallaghan, Judah Shumaker, and Faith Melody Love Shumaker; one great-granddaughter, Lydia Cantrell; a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and a host of close friends and brothers in arms, too many to mention.

Visitation will be 6-8 PM Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Robinson and Fuller White Hall Funeral Chapel, where funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 2. Burial with military honors will be at 12:00 P.M. at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.
