Daryl Smith Obituary

Daryl R. Smith, 77, of West Lafayette, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Franciscan Health in Lafayette. He was born September 19, 1947, in Anderson, Indiana, to the late Carl and Hazel (Althouse) Smith. Daryl graduated from Anderson High School in 1965, and Anderson University in 1969, where he received the Candace Stone Award. He received his master's degree from Ball State University. On June 26, 1971, he married Marsha K. Fite in Anderson, Indiana and she survives. Daryl was a principal with Twin Lakes School Corporation for 19 years and retired in 2006. He received the Outstanding Young Educator Award while at Twin Lakes and was a participant of Art on the Wabash for 10 years. Daryl enjoyed wood working, writing and had published a book of Poetry. Surviving along with his wife are his children Brady R. Smith (Bridgit Bucher), of West Lafayette, Valarie L. Smith (Lisa Hayes), of Avondale Estate, GA and his granddaughter Cara Xavia Bucher Smith. Also surviving are his siblings Kevin (Anita) Smith of Anderson, IN and Sandra (Ben) Althouse of Columbus, WI. Daryl was preceded in death by his brother Jeffrey Smith. A private service is planned with inurnment at Greenlawn Cemetery in Greentown, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to Food Finders Food Bank or the ALS Association of Indiana in Daryl's memory.
