Dave H. Bates

Dave H. Bates, 77, of Stamford, CT passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025. Born to the late Frank and Edna Bates, Dave was raised in Alberta, AL, where he graduated from Wilcox County Trading School in Miller Ferry, AL. He served honorably in the United States Army, a time during which he demonstrated the strength, dedication, and resilience that defined his character throughout his life. After his military service, Dave moved to Stamford, CT, where he and his beloved wife, the late Cynthia J. Bates, built their life together and lovingly raised their family. Dave retired from JB Moving and Storage, where he spent many years in dedicated service.

A man of deep faith, Dave's love for his family knew no bounds. He was a doting father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, always eager to share his wisdom, his laughter, and his unending love.

He is survived by his three devoted daughters: Davida (Stacy) Johnson of Stamford, CT, Shanita (Vincent) Riley and Wyteria Bates, both of Bridgeport, CT. Dave was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren: Kevin, David, Khaila, Taire, Latajah, Kyanna, Shaniya, Takiah, Taquoia, Devin, and Shanyla. A loving great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren: Ziana, Makiya, Zaire, Klairty, True, and Khailani. Three brothers and four sisters: Jack (Gerry) Bates, Clarence (Hattie) Bates, Bernard (Bertha) Bates, Annie Bates, Millie-Pearl Moye, Phyllis (Robert) Young, Geraldine Bates, Evelyn Dobbins and Arthur Bates. Brothers and sisters in law: Janice Bates, Nick (Kim) Wright, Kenneth Wright, Sharon (Jacob) Goodwin, Marie (Raymond) Underwood, Dennis Wright and Vivian (Donald) Langley. He also leaves to treasure his memory his beloved godson, Jovan Goodwin. He leaves a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who will carry forward his memory with love and gratitude.

In addition to his wife and parents, Dave was preceded in death by his siblings, Timothy Bates, Samuel (Mary) Bates, MaeElla Montgomery, Andrew Bates, and Mark Bates; brothers in law: Arthur Moye, Arthur Dobbins and Edward Wright.

Dave's life was a celebration of family, humor, and service to others. His infectious laughter, comedic spirit, generous heart, and the strength with which he loved his family will forever be remembered.

While his presence will be deeply missed, his memory will continue to inspire and guide all who were blessed to know him.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22nd, from 8am-10am at Bosak Funeral Home & Cremation, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT. A prayer service will be held at 10am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, 41 Hecker Avenue, Darien, CT.
