On the evening of Sunday, January 5, 2025, Dave Carey went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Dave was born August 9, 1966, to Jack Carey (late) and Kathleen Carey.
He worked for GE (Wabtec) from 2004 until the time of his illness in August 2024.
Dave loved God, spending time with his family (especially his pride and joy, his granddaughter, Braelynn), model trains, Farmall tractors, covered bridges, ice cream, sunsets, being outside, going to yard sales looking for "rusty gold" and wood working just to name a few.
He served on the Trustee Board at Greenfield Baptist Church (GBC) for many years. He played the part of one of the Wise Men for Journey to Bethlehem at GBC. He missed his days of being a band Dad, helping the Seneca Marching Band onto the field. He loved helping others from helping put on a roof, helping redo the church basement, church workday, VBS and everything in between. Dave and Kerry looked forward to the time when they could retire together and do more volunteering and spend more time at their favorite place, Presque Isle State Park.
Dave leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Kerry Carey (Dave and Kerry 2 gether 4 ever, no matter what (if you know you know)). He also leaves two sons Stephen and Justin, granddaughter Braelynn (the light of his life), his mom (Kathleen), brothers (Dennis (Tina) and Doug), sister (Christine), his in-laws, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and friends to cherish his memory. Even with all he was going through he was concerned that his family would be okay.
Dave will be fondly remembered as a loving husband, father, papa and friend. As Braelynn would say, "Papa is everyone's best friend in the house."
The family would like to thank the many groups and individuals that were so supportive during Dave's illness. We are forever grateful to:
• Our church family (Greenfield Baptist Church) – from prayers, cutting our grass, plowing our driveway, cards, getting our mail, texts, visits, words of encouragement, financial support and the list goes on. Thank you for being our "neighbors".
• Dave's work family (Wabtec) – for your prayers, words of encouragement and financial support.
• Kerry's work family (Erie Insurance) – for your prayers, texts, chats, calls, grub hub gift card and especially for taking on extra work so that she could focus on Dave.
• Stephen's work family (White Lodging) – for your prayers, texts, gift card and help covering the cost of our initial hotel stay.
• Courtyard by Marriott Pittsburgh University Center (Concord Hospitality) for providing compassionate hospitality during the family's extended stay.
• The many doctors, nurses, nurse aides, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and speech therapists that worked with Dave and showed the utmost care, compassion and love.
• The UPMC Post Cardiac Arrest team https://www.emergencymedicine.pitt.edu/patient-care/post-cardiac-arrest-service for their support and the research they do to improve care and outcomes for patients who survive cardiac arrest.
• Family House Pittsburgh (https://familyhouse.org) which made it possible for his wife to be with him during his hospital stay.
• Elkins Funeral Home for your kindness and compassion. Bill, Dave always had a fondness for you.
There are so many individuals that it would be hard to list. For those of you that helped in any way we are forever grateful. Please know that you made a difference. Thank you for loving on us when we needed it the most.
The visitation will be at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 S. Lake Street, North East, PA 16428 on Sunday, January 12th from 3:00pm-7:00pm.
Funeral will be held at Greenfield Baptist Church, 9028 Williams Road, North East, PA 16428 on Monday, January 13th at 11:00am.
Memorial contributions can be made to Greenfield Baptist Church (9028 Williams Road, North East, PA 16428) or Family House (5308 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224).
