David Joseph Keiner died November 21, 2024 at Baptist Health Louisville in palliative care due to complications from bladder cancer.
He was born July 15, 1937 in Chicago, IL, son of Elmer and Orpha Delap Keiner.
Dave served in the Navy from 1956-1960, his primary job was working on the flight deck of
the USS Hornet to keep planes safely coming and going. Upon his return from service, he met the love of his life, Judy at a skating party. They were married on November 16, 1963 and traveled the world together. The mostly traveled by cruising (true to his inner sailor) but some by land - Turkey, France, Spain, Greece, Italy, the Mediterranean, Tahiti, Hawaii, Brazil, Panama Canal, Costa Rica, Mexico, the United States and the British Virgin Islands just to name a few.
He worked as a pipefitter at Western Publishing for 18 years, AC Delco for three years, and retired after a long career at the Corvette Plant in Bowling Green, KY for 21 years for a total of 25 years for General Motors. He loved model airplanes, roller skating, bowling, golf, relaxing by the pool in the summer heat with his cigar and a Tanqueray gin and tonic.
Dave was a faith-filled Catholic and held fast to his faith until he passed. He lived every day as a gift and was grateful for all of his blessings.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew David Rummel.
Survivors include his wife, Judy; children, Scot Keiner (Jane) and Melinda Keiner-Rummel (Dan Rummel); handsome grandchildren, David Keiner, and Nathan and Jacob Rummel; and faithful pets, Tiffany, Mollie, Brigit, Annie and Suze Q. These animals were Dave's heart and soul-there was not a time when he didn't have a pet by his side.
His funeral is 1pm Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road. Visitation is after 10am until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to Fern Creek Baptist Church, 5920 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40291.
