DAVID KURT ABBOTT

January 22, 1956 – January 16, 2025

David Kurt Abbott was born in Havre, Montana, on January 22, 1956, to David J. and Barbara L. Abbott. He was a multi-faceted man who was creative, had a witty sense of humor, and a huge heart. He had a love for family, camping, music, history, anthropology, and animals.

When he was young, his family relocated to the Johnson City, Texas, area and temporarily resided on the Lyndon B. Johnson Ranch, where he enjoyed hiking and camping. David attended Lyndon B. Johnson High School and was the drummer in a band called the Pedernales Playboys. In 1974, David joined the United States Army and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. In the late ’70s, he was an executive producer on a new wave/punk rock album called Live at Raul’s. He also loved animals and even had a bull named T-Bone.

David later studied anthropology at UT Arlington, where he obtained his undergraduate degree. He went on to study law at SMU School of Law and earned a Juris Doctor degree.

He lived in Ellis County, Texas, for many years, was a friend to many, and was a respected member of the legal community. He helped countless people over the years, often putting others before himself.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Abbott; siblings, Jeanette Howell, Leann Nicholson, and Sean Abbott; his children, David Andrew Abbott, Katie Abbott, and Sara Lynn Abbott; stepson, David Trost; grandchildren, Lawson Abbott and Logan Abbott; and a great-grandchild, Bennett Bear Abbott. He is preceded in death by his parents, David J. Abbott and Barbara L. Abbott.

In the last few years of his life, David developed a stronger and more intimate relationship with God. That relationship brought him great comfort, joy, and strength. He passed away on January 16, 2025.

A celebration of life will be held at Victory Baptist Church in Waxahachie on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society in memory of David Abbott.

He was a wonderful person who was loved and will be missed dearly.
