David Abend Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by O'Guinn Family Funeral Homes - Birch Run Chapel on Nov. 4, 2023.
ABEND, David E. – of Midland, age 37, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. Honoring his wishes, cremation will be taking place. A Celebration of David's Life will be held 11AM Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run. Pastor Patti Bream officiating. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Friday from 5PM until 8PM, and on Saturday from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM. Memorial contributions in David's name may be made to the University of Michigan Athletics – Champions Fund. The family requests that those attending services please wear their favorite University of Michigan attire to honor David's memory.
David was born May 28, 1986, in Traverse City, Michigan, to Steven and Penny (Egeler) Abend. He graduated from Oscoda High School with the class of 2004. David was a die-hard Michigan Wolverine that bled maize and blue. He had an extensive collection of University of Michigan memorabilia from jerseys to football helmets, but his most prized possession of them all was his photos with Tom Brady. David enjoyed all sports, especially golf and was very well rounded when it came to sports knowledge. He also enjoyed working on houses, and cooking – he would call to check on his mother every day and tell her about a new recipe he tried and send her a photo. Above all, he loved his daughters with all his heart, soul, mind, and body, and spending time with his family and friends. David was kind, honest, loyal and a friend to all. He knew the love of his Lord, had a passion for life and loved everything about it. David will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are: Daughters: Emile Abend, Allie Abend, and Hailey Abend; Love of his life, Heidi Smithingell; Parents, Steven and Penny Abend; Brothers: Andrew (Lena) Abend, and Mathew (Dana) Abend; Grandparents: Willard (Ruth) Abend, and Norma (David) Marmie; Nieces: Julane, Whisper, Katy, Hannah, and Mady; Nephews, Mason, Nikolis, and Michael; Best friends: Mark Wagner and wife, Morgan and their children - Brody and Bronx, Justin Edwardson and wife Jesika, and their children - Leah and Elijah, and Jeremy Spencer and his wife, Leishia and their children – Evelina, Alazay, Olivia, and Felicity; 10 loving Aunts and uncles, many cousins, other loving family members and dear friends. David was preceded in death by: Grandfather, Martin "Beaner" Egeler; Great grandparents: Harold and Beatrice Abend. David was a handsome little boy, he and his family shared numerous Michigan football games where he'd cheer on the Maize and Blue!
