Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, David R. Alexander, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. David was born July 30, 1930 to Herbert and Ethyle (June) Alexander. He grew up in Newark Valley with six brothers and graduated from NVCS in 1949. In high school, he participated in many activities and sports and was a star football player in his day. David worked for IBM Owego for 32 years where he was a certified Tool and Die Maker. He retired as Maintenance Reliability Engineer and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was Town Councilman for the Town of Berkshire for many years. After that he became Town Supervisor for 10 years and was a member of the Tioga County Board of Supervisors. Through almost all of his adult life, he was a farmer known for his love of Holsteins and white faced Herefords and liked to restore old farms to their former glory.
David was predeceased by his parents Herbert and Ethyle Alexander, brothers Herbert, Delbert, Gilbert, and Alton Alexander, and his son-in-law Ralph Blinn.
David is survived by his wife and sweetheart of 71 years, Charlotte (Clark) Alexander; his children: Ila Blinn, Ina (Roy) Wakeman, Terri Coulter (Greg Davis), Julie (Dustin) Sweet, and Michael Alexander. His 14 Grandchildren: Nikki (John) Hrustich, Kelly (Chris) Gardner, Patrick (Jennifer) Blinn, Mitchell (Sydney) Blinn, January (Mike) Pratt, Jamie (Jason) Wooten, Ashley (David) Nugent, Brandon Coulter, Ben (Julie) Coulter, Meghan (Dan) Pauley, Nathan (Raegan) Sherman, Erin (J) Voorhees, Michaela (Jake) Alexander, Kristy (Ross) Alexander. Also surviving are his 25 great-grandchildren: Zachary, Mason, Koby, Abigail, Gracie, Tanner, Jack, Makana, Sheridan, Charlotte, Noah, Sam, Lincoln, David, Sawyer, Kaleb, Carter, Alex, Aden, Rory, Zosia, London, Maksim, Alaina, and Brantley. Also surviving are his brothers Victor and Kenneth (Verna) Alexander as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A special thanks to David's caregivers, Sam, Sita, Kim, Hillary and Jane, who provided him with excellent care and compassion over the past few months.
The funeral will be a socially distanced private service held at the MacPherson Funeral Home in Newark Valley. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David Alexander's name to the 1st Congregational Church of Berkshire, 12445 State Route 38, Berkshire, NY 13736.
