David Azure Obituary
Visitation will be 3:00-7:00pm, Wednesday, with family present from 5:00-7:00pm, followed by a prayer service at 7:00pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street.
David Webster Azure, Sr. was born November 5, 1947, in Belcourt, ND, to Martin & Irene (Lilley) Azure. He went to school and graduated from Belcourt High School. During his high school years, he participated in wrestling. After high school, he volunteered for the army and served in Vietnam September 17, 1968 to May 1969. During this time, he earned several awards including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Compact Infantryman's Badge, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Purple Heart, and Parachute Badge. After his time in the service, he worked for the Indian Health Service for thirty-nine and a half years, from June 11, 1970, until his retirement October 3, 2008. During this time, he served as Regional Great Plains HR Director.
David enjoyed hunting and fishing at the River. He played softball with guys from the office, played YMCA basketball and loved running. He always had a positive attitude and had a good sense of humor. HE was generous, giving, and caring. David loved his children and adored his grandchildren. He had a Warrior Spirit and was protective of his family.
Grateful for having shared David's life are his children: Leah Azure, David Azure, Jr., Mark Azure, Logan Azure, and Lynsee (Chuck) Driscoll; grandchildren: Adrian (Sidney) Azure, Autumn, Avery, Teyah, and Skylar Azure, Teagan and Wesley Driscoll; great-grandchild: Ryker Azure; siblings: Karen (Dale) Nadeau, Debbie (Ron) Peltier, Sharon (Brian) Gattke, Kathy (Bill) Stein, and Bryan (Laurie) Azure.
Preceding David in death are his parents: Martin & Irene Azure; daughter: Erica Azure; siblings: Glenn (Karen) Azure, Jeanette (Roger) Belgarde, and Charles (Laurie) Azure.
