David Allen Bailey, 73, of Pekin passed away at 11:28 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on August 24, 1950 in Springfield to Jim and Bonnie (Light) Bailey. He married Retha Jane Harris on January 25, 1969.
David is survived by his wife, Retha Bailey of Pekin; four daughters, Deanna (Ricky) Alaniz of Clermont, Florida, Dawn Byers of Pekin, Dusty (Shane) Thomas of Creve Couer, and Rebecca Bailey of Pekin; honorary son, David Lee (Jennifer) Harris of Pekin; 12 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Randall Bailey of Morton and five sisters, Sheila (Brad) Berry of Mapleton, Cheryl (Dave) Schmidt of Medina, Ohio, Connie Bailey of Medina, Ohio, Carol Bailey of Pekin, and Lisa Elwell of Pekin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Bonnie Bailey and four brothers, Michael, Larry, Doug, and Jimmy Bailey.
David loved taking his pride and joy, his '67 Buick Gran Sport, to any and all car shows. He was a long-time truck driver and grew up working with his family at his dad's sawmill. He came from a huge family and loved spending time with his grandkids, great-grandkids, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Bath, with a visitation one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Rev. Linwood Brown will officiate. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in David's name to Bethel Baptist Church. Online condolences can be left for his family at www.hurleyfh.com.
