David Henry Baker II

David Baker Obituary

David Henry Baker II, U.S. Army veteran and beloved husband, brother, cousin and friend, passed away in the early morning of March 6, at the age of 59.
The son of David and Darlene Baker, lately of Tawas City, Dave grew up in a U.S. Air Force family. Born July 2, 1964 in Portland, Ore., he lived in seven U.S. states before graduating from Tawas Area High School in the Class of 1983.
Following study at NMU and newspaper work in Fayetteville, N.C., Dave enlisted in the U.S. Army 1987-1999. Sgt. David Baker was awarded the Kuwait Liberation Medal during the Gulf War, as well as the National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal and many others.
David met and married his devoted wife, Whitney, in 2007. A man of many talents, David enjoyed classical music, antiques, target shooting and exploring historic sites. In recent years, he found his niche in CNC milling.
Known for his vibrant personality and for his deep passion for history, politics, and Christian values, David approached life with a unique blend of creativity and thoughtfulness, often inspiring those around him to think deeply about the world.
Serving as AWANA leader and helping with other church community events as needed, Dave showed a natural friendship with youngsters. His personal convictions and faith in Christ were unwavering, and his commitment to American liberties were always clear and steadfast.
David's enthusiasm and love extended to his sweet wife Whitney, his sister Elisabeth, and many dearly-loved cousins, former schoolteachers, and friends. Jim, Jodi, Danny, Vic, Miss B, and many more. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A service honoring the life of David "Sarge" Baker will be held Saturday, April 13, at 1 p.m., at Byron Center Bible Church, 8855 Byron Center Ave SW, Byron Center, MI 49315. Visitation and light reception to follow. All are welcome! Floral arrangements in red, white, and blue may be sent to the church in honor of Dave.

Mister Dude

August 4, 2024

I remember you, Sarge, even though i only lived in the Tawas area for the last part of 8th grade and my Freshman year of highschool. You were different, like me, smarter than the average kid and already focused on living a life of military service and living that life in Christ. When i was alone or bullied, you made me feel like i had a friend. I am so saddened to learn of your passing. We stayed in touch for a year or so after i moved away but i wish i had stayed connected to you. In the short time i knew you, my life was inspired by you and influenced for the better. I know i will see you one day in the eternal celebration of the Kingdom of Heaven. Rest in peace and power, my brother. All the love and respect of your blessed friend, Dude
