David Barry, 68, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Carolina East Medical Center.
A funeral service to honor David’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 16th at Munden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
David was born on March 14, 1957, in Concord, California, to the late Charles and Ruth Suggett. He proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army for four years. Following his military service, David began his civilian career as an NDI (Non-Destructive Inspection) Metals Inspector in Alameda, California, where he worked for 15 years. He later continued his dedicated service at Cherry Point, where he spent another 25 years before retiring.
After retirement, David especially enjoyed his regular luncheon gatherings with his fellow retirees from Cherry Point. They enjoyed their moments of reminiscing and storytelling which showed the close friendships he had made throughout his career.
A devoted husband, David, shared over 45 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Cheryl. He was a proud father and grandfather who cherished time with his children and grandchildren. His greatest joy was simply being with his family and making memories together. May David be remembered as a man of quiet strength, steady presence, and a warm heart.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Cheryl of the home; daughter, Maegan Smith (Joey) of Hubert, NC; son, Joe Barry (Megan) of Beulaville, NC; sister, Anna Marie Jones of Middleburg, FL; sister-in-law, Lisa Brenay of Morehead City, NC ; grandchildren, Madison Tyler, Maverick Barry, Lainey Tyler, Jackson Tyler, Parker Barry, and Ryleigh Smith; niece, Heather Braun (James); nephew, Jason Jones (Tammy); and great nieces and nephews, Jayson Jones, Ceara Braun, and Zachary Braun.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his heavenly granddaughter, Charlotte Anne Barry and brother-in-law, Bill Jones.
