David Bartley Obituary

David M. Bartley, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated friend, passed away on August 31, 2025, in Columbia, Tennessee, at the age of 73. Born on September 19, 1951, in Nashville, Tennessee, David lived a life rich in love, knowledge, and shared experiences.

As an accomplished auctioneer and entrepreneur, David’s career was marked by his unwavering dedication and love for teaching others. He found immense joy in sharing his skills, mentoring the next generation with a gentle hand and warm heart. Known for his dry wit and kindness, David possessed a unique ability to connect with those around him, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

His proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly his family. Married for 52 years, David was the loving husband and best friend to Deborah Bartley. It was a love story characterized by daily affirmations of affection, as David told Deborah he loved her every day, creating a foundation of unwavering support and companionship that will forever resonate in their hearts.

David was a loving father to Brian Bartley, and he welcomed his daughter-in-law, Leah Beth Bartley, into the family with open arms. In addition to being a devoted dad, he took great delight in being a grandfather to his two grandchildren, Amelia and Gavin Bartley. Their laughter and presence filled his life with purpose and unmeasured joy, contributing to the richness of his familial legacy.  He was also brother to Mary Evelyn.

A graduate with a bachelor's degree, David was not only a skilled auctioneer but also an avid reader with an unparalleled wealth of knowledge. He had a profound interest in U.S. history, as well as the histories of the Western United States and Tennessee. His fascination with tractors, trucks, cars, and farming showcased his connection to the land and its heritage, while his prowess as a marksman further defined his multifaceted character.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Robert M. Bartley and Rose Evelyn Saylor Bartley. Their spirits continue to guide and inspire his loved ones, reminding them of the importance of family bonds and shared history.

David M. Bartley's memorial service will be held on September 7, 2025, at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Harpeth Hills Funeral Home followed by a visitation from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at the Harpeth Hills Pavilion.

In our remembrance, we celebrate David’s life—a life dedicated to love, family, friendship, and perpetual learning. His legacy will endure in the hearts of those who loved him, and his spirit will live on through the stories shared and the lessons imparted. He was truly a remarkable individual, and he will be deeply missed.
