Heaven became a little brighter as David "Jeremy" Bates age 46, of Dalton, GA, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 2, 2026. Jeremy was born in Dalton, GA, on July 24, 1979, he was the son of Judy Worley Bates and the late Rev. William Dale Bates. He loved his family, friends, his mountain dew, pickles, and Alabama football. He found it a pleasure to help and serve others. Jeremy proudly served as a member of the Georgia State Defense Force. He spent many dedicated years with Imperial Landscape. Jeremy took pride in his work and often said, the best of it was doing his part then getting to watch God do the rest. Jeremy lived with purpose, faith and a heart wide open. A true outdoorsman, and talented trumpet player. Who found joy in many things such as hiking, hunting, rafting, racing, music, and anything that brought him into contact with nature. He loved to preach, his faith guided him. Every day it was his mission to bring a smile to someone's face. To everyone who knew him he was a gem, steady, kind, and full of life. Jeremy's legacy will continue in the smiles he inspired, the lives he touched, and the love he leaves behind. He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Bates, and his first wife, Susan Powell Bates. Jeremy is survived by his mother, Judy Worley Bates; his wife of seventeen years, Sally Pavon Bates; his children, Caitlyn Bates, Deanna Masters (Bryce), Jamison Rose, and Gabriel "Gabe" Bates; and his beloved granddaughters, Naomi Bates, Ryleigh Masters, and Tenley Masters. He is also survived by his brother, Lesley Bates, and his three loyal dogs-Sam, Mac, and Dew-who were never far from his side. A Celebration of Life will be Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 2:00 P.M., Chapel of Dalton Funeral Home with Rev. Mason Holliday and Rev. Brian Whitmore officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Dalton Funeral Home. Flowers accepted or memorial contributions may be made to help with funeral expense.
