Obituary For David Eugene Bennett
David Bennett: A Life of Transformation and Spiritual Activism
David Bennett, 69, a beloved husband, author, speaker, and spiritual activist, concluded his extraordinary voyage of purpose on December 26th, 2025, in
Virginia Beach, Virginia. A life dedicated to practical spirituality and empowerment, David became a catalyst of personal transformation for countless others.
David's life was defined by his transformative journey, which began with a career as a diver and engineer, notably serving as the Chief Engineer of the ocean research vessel Aloha. His spiritual path shifted dramatically after experiencing a Near-Death Experience (NDE) in 1983, and again after surviving stage IV lung and bone cancer in 2000.
Following these experiences, David focused on sharing his core message: "Love is Everything & Everything is Love." He channeled the gifts received from his NDE into his work as an energetic healer, a certified Transformational Life Coach, and a public speaker.
An influential voice in the NDE community, David lectured at major conferences for IANDS, ASCSI, and ACISTE. He was the author of the best-selling memoir Voyage of Purpose, and A Voice as Old as Time, which focused on contemplative living. His expertise led to appearances on The Story of God with Morgan Freeman, Dr Oz, and NBC National News. He passionately volunteered with NDE and other experiencer groups, including leading Upstate NY IANDS and co-facilitating multiple retreats in Saint Louis and Virginia Beach, helping people integrate their spiritually transformative experiences. Beyond his public service, David was a gifted creator who expressed his artistry through woodworking and jewelry making.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Cindy Griffith-Bennett; his in-laws, Ann Griffith, Gigi and Ken Hansen, and Gray and John Tham. David's favorite role was that of "Uncle Dave," and he is lovingly remembered by his nieces, Jessica Griffith and Eliza Tham, and his nephews, Jon Hansen, Thomas Hansen, Max Tham, and Sean Tham. He is also survived by half-siblings and their families.
A Celebration of Life is planned for March 28th, 12:30 pm at Unity Renaissance in Chesapeake; all are welcome.
