David Allen Berry, 15, of Lorimor, Iowa, son of Bob and Melissa Berry, brother of Roger and Charlie, was born at MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa on July 20, 2009.

David spent his last morning with his family at home, his favorite place. It was New Year’s Day and Charlie made us pancakes that David really enjoyed. After breakfast, he was helping his dad and bro with morning cattle chores. He then played his favorite video games and would pause them frequently to find his dogs, Lettie and Bo, to lovingly pick on them.

He was a freshman at Winterset High School and was excited to rejoin his wrestling team for the first practice after winter break. His friends said it was his best practice yet. As practice ended, he fell suddenly ill and was unresponsive. He never regained consciousness and went to be with our Lord on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa, being embraced by his mom and dad.

David was unlike anyone you had ever met. His ability to remember facts about just anything was amazing. He was blessed with quick wit and loved to make people laugh. You could always tell when he was thinking up something hilarious by the handsome smirk he would have.

He loved to go fishing and hunting with his dad and brothers. He had a giant heart for pets, especially his dogs, Bo and Lettie, and also his “bonus” dog, Cody. He loved playing video games and games with his family. He especially loved playing chess with his grandpa Dave.

David is already so deeply missed by his family and friends. Nothing will ever be as it was, but we will cherish the 15 beautiful years that the Lord blessed us with David’s soul. We are so blessed that we got to spend the last Christmas with both sides of our families in David’s favorite place . . . our home. We found peace the moment he left us, for he was in the presence of our Father in Heaven.

David is survived by his parents, Bob and Melissa; brothers, Roger and Charlie Berry; grandparents, David and Jolene Beveridge, Elevera Berry, and Robert Morse; and his great grandma, Lela Stonehocker. He was preceded in death by his grandpa, Roger Berry;  great grandma, Ardis Schwartz; and cousin, Kolton Eivins.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM, Friday, January 10, 2025 at the Winterset Redeemer Church (200 N. 16th Ave.). A Celebration of His Life will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the Winterset Redeemer Church with Pastor Jaysson Gurwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Lorimor Cemetery at Lorimor, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the David Berry Memorial Fund at the Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Winterset. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.caldwellparrish.com.
