David Blodgett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crosby & Neal Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Newport on Jan. 14, 2026.
Cambridge, ME – David Blodgett, 78, passed away on December 20, 2025, in Bangor, Maine. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

David proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Stationed in Germany, he worked as a medic, caring for soldiers on base, and took care of all the newborns.

After returning home, David spent more than 55 years working as a heavy equipment operator. His career included work for the Town of Holland, John Goodall, Stanley Kaitbenski, Gifford Brothers, Ron Paradis, CJ, among others. Those who knew David, knew that work was to be done right. Whether it was paid work or one of his own projects, this was his passion in life. David was always building, fixing, or improving something, on his own time. A 1962 Jeep Willys outfitted with a handmade "roof" from roofing metal was his most used "tool". David was a true problem-solver, a man who always found a way, even if he had to invent it himself.

David had a love for music and service. He played the harmonica at the Corinna Seventh-day Adventist Church every Sabbath and shared his music each month with residents at the Hartland nursing home, and at Gatherings 4 Main Street.

David married his wife, Debra (Simpson) Blodgett, on March 16, 1975. Together they raised their son, Olin, with whom David shared an especially close bond.

David was predeceased by his parents, Lewis Freeman Blodgett and Gladys Estella Elvidge; his wife, Debra Blodgett; and his brothers, Lester and Edward Blodgett. He is survived by his son, Olin, and Olin's wife, Alilia, of Maine, and his sister-in-law, Linda Blodgett, of Massachusetts.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Gatherings Operating Fund at the Corinna SDA Church. Online giving: https://adventistgiving.org/donate/AN4IDG

Burial and services will be held in the spring under the care of Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home in Southbridge, Massachusetts.
