Carl Jay Benner, 55, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on December 28, 2025.
Born in Skowhegan, Maine, on November 26, 1970 on Thanksgiving at 8:15pm.
Carl was a veteran who served in the Navy from 1990-1996. He served aboard the USS Maryland SSBN 738 Ohio class ballistic missile submarine.
More recently he was a dedicated manager who found his greatest joy in the outdoors. An avid mountain biker and fitness enthusiast, he was often finding ways to stay active. Known for his quick wit, charm, and infectious sense of humor, Carl had a unique ability to brighten any room and will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is survived by his sister, Cyndi Gray of Newport, her husband Scott Gray and their 2 children, Libby and Garran from Maine; his three sons, Michael Benner (24), Ethan Benner (21), and Jacob Benner (17); and their mother, Teresa Benner.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 8th, at Covenant Presbyterian Church located at 4500 SC-86, Easley, SC 29642. All who knew and loved Carl are invited to attend and share their favorite memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to assist with funeral and housing expenses.
