David Brauer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home - West Roxbury on May 2, 2024.
David P. Brauer of Stoughton passed away on April 30, 2024, at his home.
Born in Boston in 1960 as the eldest child of the late David P. Brauer and the late Margaret G. Brauer, he was 63 years old. He spent the first 12 years of his life in Boston before his family moved to Dover. He attended Dover-Sherborn schools, where he excelled in the classroom and on the playing fields, ultimately earning the Scholar-Athlete Award at his graduation. He attended the College of the Holy Cross as an undergraduate and then Boston College Law School, where he earned his Juris Doctorate.
A lifelong Massachusetts resident, David settled in the Boston area and joined his father in a joint law practice that they established in Medfield, where they worked together until his father's passing in 2006. In 2010, seeking new professional challenges, he began Puroclean Emergency Restoration Services and owned and operated the business until his passing.
David took great pleasure in listening to music, watching films, and staying physically active. For a number of years, he was an enthusiastic cyclist and a proud participant in the Pan-Mass Challenge benefitting the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. An avid reader, he especially enjoyed mysteries and spy stories. He loved spending time in the family home in Harwichport, reading a novel, enjoying a glass of wine, and watching the ocean while listening to music.
David is survived by his siblings, Robert J. Brauer and his wife Mary of Sudbury, Paul G. Brauer of Boston, Susan E. Cavanaugh of Newburyport, Christopher M. Brauer of West Roxbury, Stephen M. Brauer and his wife Joan Saab of Richmond, VA, Richard P. Brauer of Boston, and Kerin E. Nunn and her husband Dennis of Dover. He was a devoted uncle to Carrie Novotny, Kristen Langan, Paul Brauer, Jr., Scott Brauer, Matthew Brauer, Phineas Brauer, Wilson Brauer, Samantha Cavanaugh, and Riley and Regan Nunn.
A visitation will be held at the P.E. Murray - F.J. Higgins, George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 2000 Centre St. West Roxbury on Monday, May 6th from 8:30 - 9:30am, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Theresa of Avila Church at 10am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.

I met Dave through the Chamber of Commerce in Norwood, but he became more than a business connection. He became a friend. I used him exclusively when a client had a need for his services, but that was just the beginning. I could always count on Dave to be there to answer a question, or drop everything to see one of my clients.

He also was a guest at my real estate seminar, and a regular attendee. He clearly put a lot of effort into his presentation, and it was probably more important for him to support me as a friend than it was to potentially get business.

What unfortunately ended up being my last interaction with Dave said a lot about him. He contacted me to let me know that he could not attend my seminar. No one did that! People replied that they could go but didn't tell me in advance that they wouldn't be there. Dave always did the right thing. After thanking him for letting me know, he wrote back with a smiley face emoji. That was Dave.

In my last phone call with Dave, I unfortunately had to hang up more quickly than normal. Again, unlike pretty much everyone I know, Dave ended up calling me back the next day to check in and make sure I was ok because I didn't seem like myself because I had to go quickly. No one does that! That was Dave, and he was special.

I will miss him. May he rest in peace and may his memory always be a blessing.
