David Lieberman Bryant passed away peacefully on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2024 at
Baptist Floyd Hospital from an unexpected infection that took his life. His family was by his side.
David was born on July 7, 1941, at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. He
grew up in Roanoke Rapids, NC. He began working on farms at the age of 13, working the
fields throughout the summers and after school. His parents weren't well off and had no money
for extras, so when his sister Sylvia Jean needed a dress for her senior prom, David gave her
the money to buy one. He was always a generous man.
He entered the Navy at age 17, and spent 20 years, retiring as a Senior Chief, specializing in
communications. Throughout his career he traveled the world, stationed in many
places-California, Alaska, Florida, Texas,Maryland, the Philippines, Japan, and Vietnam. He
was always proud of his service to his country but didn't talk about it much, being the gentle,
quiet, kind man that we loved and respected.
He moved to Kentucky in 1980 to marry the love of his life, his wife Joan. He then worked for
Capital Holding (now Aegon) until he retired in 1999. David was a Mr. Fix It and tool man, and
used those talents to not only work at home, but spent many an hour helping others, especially
his mother-in-law and father-in-law (HIram and Peggy Taylor) who lived next door.
He loved his family dearly and was proud of each and every one of them. He especially loved
his role as "Grandpa" and "Gramps". He loved technology and used it often to stay in touch.
He loved science and science fiction and was a prolific reader, reading at least 4-5 books a
week.
David loved his church and church family, and spent over 30 years leading up the "tech team",
showing up every Sunday and whenever needed. David was a commissioner for the City of
Crestwood from 1999 to present. He was very proud of their achievement of establishing
Maples Park for our community.
His favorite place for a vacation was always his brother Pete's cabin on Lake Gaston in North
Carolina. He loved to fish, boat, ride seadoos, and enjoy his brother and sister-in-law's
hospitality for over 40 years. Thanksgiving was always celebrated at "the cabin", hosting
sometimes 12 and sometimes 40 people, just depending on who could show up.
For those of us who loved him, he has left us too soon, but God is now holding him in his loving
arms, and saying "well done my good and faithful servant."
David was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gladys Bryant.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 43 years, Joan Taylor Bryant; son, David Mitchell Bryant (Karen), son, Jonothan R. Bryant (Rebecca), daughter, Donna Faye Harrell, daughter, Abigail Tiller (Charles); grandchildren, Eric Lee Bryant, Dustin Lee Musik, David Edward Bryant, Courtney Bryant (Dustin), Taylor Lee Bryant, Carly Tiller, Cayden Tiller, Madison Tiller; great grandchildren, Kelsey Musik, Derrick Hall, Gannon Hall; brother John "Pete" Ellis Bryant, Jr. (Sherry) and sister, Sylvia Jean McClung.
Memorial service will be 1pm, Friday, June 7th at Crestwood United Methodist Church with inurnment to follow in Harrods Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 10am to 1pm, Friday, June 7th
at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to CUMC, 7214 Kavanaugh Road, Crestwood, KY 40014 or Friends of the Maples Inc, P.O. Box 186, Crestwood, KY 40014. condolences:www.stoessfuneralhome.com
