David attended Empire Public School for 12 years. After high school, he began his bachelor's degree in accounting at Cameron University and finished at Central State University in Edmond, OK.
David married his wife of almost 68 years, Winna Mae Smith on August 11, 1957. They met at 4-H roundup where he told one of his friends he was going to marry her someday.
His children are Ron Burns of Duncan, OK and Tammie Burns Lowe of Enid.
His grandson Jay Brandon Burns, wife Alex and great grandchildren Hallie and Saige Burns live in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. His granddaughter Jinna McCown, husband Garrett and great grandchildren, Jaylynn and Kamden McCown, live in Enid, OK. His grandson, Kyle Hausher, lives in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. His nephew, Bobby Jay Burns, and wife Debbie live in Duncan, Oklahoma. His niece, Susan Thornton and husband Russell, live in Duncan, Oklahoma. He has many great nieces and great nephews.
David was preceded in death by father J K Burns, mother Jewell Burns, brother Bobby Gene Burns, other family and many life-long friends.
David was a 3rd generation farmer raising limousine cattle, goats and sheep as well as being a hay producer. He also had a construction company for many years building Farmers Home houses and apartment complexes.
David was a long-time member of Fair Baptist Church. He loved riding his 4-wheeler, watching his calves being born each spring, talking about his cattle, looking at the stars on a clear night, enjoying game nights with his kids and grandkids (everyone wanted to be his partner at Pitch), setting trotlines and eating anything with gravy on it.
