It is with great sadness that the Byram family shares the news of the passing of our brother, David Byram. David passed unexpectedly from natural causes on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at his home in El Cajon, CA at the age of 63. He is survived by his mother, Sally, and his siblings, Larry, Elette, Dorene, Duane and Teresa.
David was a kind and gentle soul who was loved by virtually everyone he met. He was known for his intuitive compassion, friendliness, and for remembering birthdays for decades, and delivering such personalized birthday cards, flowers and gifts to show each person how special they were to him. He had a great sense of humor, and would often deliver an unexpected and perfectly played zinger. He was often a quiet person in the room, but when he spoke, his word was truthful and candid, and we knew it came from the heart. Often, David would speak truth in such a way, that he was the humble yet notable "adult" in the room. One could always count on David to do what he promised/agreed to do, whether is was to show up to feed pets at a certain date/time, or to show up on time and ready for events, your house to help, or his job. He was the original Mr. Reliable.
David loved tennis, and volunteered for many years at the La Costa Tennis Tournament. He was employed at Ralphs in Mission Valley for 12 years and won the admiration of his co-workers and customers. He was a devout catholic and steadfast member of the church community, originally at St. Charles in Imperial Beach, and later at Our Lady of Grace in El Cajon. He was an enthusiastic member of the Knights of Columbus for 45 years and had reached the level of Fourth Degree, which is a rare and distinguished honor. Every holiday season he volunteered and delivered wreaths far and wide throughout the San Diego area, and even sending more to family & friends across the country. He was a lover of good food and was an avid patron of his favorite restaurants. But he wasn't afraid to branch out and try something new, or afraid to order the most expensive item on the menu. He was fascinated by the weather and would start his mornings watching the weather channel, and he never missed an opportunity to inform family and friends of potential weather threats in their area. We all learned that his forecasts were more reliable than those we heard elsewhere and we often called on him to confirm the forecast for our outdoor events. He loved the classic TV shows of the 80's and 90's, and reveled in reruns of Emergency, NCIS, and McGyver.
Those who knew David, know that his path in life was a touch harder for him than for most of us, but he never complained about his lot or let his challenges get him down. He saw himself as fortunate, and I think I speak for many of us that it was _we_ who were fortunate to have him in our lives.
A mass in David's honor will be held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, El Cajon, CA on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 11:00am. Please join us in celebrating his life, with a reception to follow in the reception hall next door.

David was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus. I got to know him after I joined the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and became a member of the same 4th Degree Assembly with David. I consider him a brother and a friend. He was a dedicated member of the Knights. He liked to send me text messages about severe weather events.
God bless you David. We miss you.
