David "Dave" Carpenter, age 65, of Holt, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on Friday, October 13, 1959, in Lansing, Michigan. Dave was raised in Holt where he graduated from Holt High School. During his time there, he proudly served as the starting quarterback of the football team for all four years. But more than just an athlete, Dave was a friend to everyone. His easygoing nature, quick wit, and kindness made him a beloved classmate and teammate.

He went on to graduate from Central Michigan University, carrying with him a lifelong love of learning, music, and good conversation.

Dave was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Deborah Carpenter, with whom he shared a beautiful and devoted marriage until her passing in 2017. Their love was steady, selfless, and lasting-a bond that remained strong until her final breath and lived on in him every day after. Together, they raised two children, Ryan (Rachel) Carpenter and Kasey (Sawyer) McFadden, who were the pride and joy of his life.

His world grew even brighter with the arrival of his grandchildren: Charles and Bennington, Nevaeh, Elijah, and Alex. Whether he was jamming with Charlie, cuddling Bennington, or simply spending time with his family, Dave's warmth and humor made every moment special.

A lifelong lover of music, darts, and a good laugh, Dave could often be found throwing darts, sharing stories, and enjoying the company of a close-knit group of friends. He was known for knowing the lyrics to endless songs and avidly watching the game show network. In recent years, he shared his life with his girlfriend and cherished companion, Debi Hull. Together they enjoyed concerts, card games, and each other's company. He was her Fred Astaire.

Always showing up for others, never for the attention, but simply because it was the right thing to do. He was the calm in every storm, the laugh in every room, the helping hand when no one else was looking. He became a second dad to many.

He was the most loyal friend, the loving son, the big-hearted brother and uncle, the most devoted partner, the best dad, but above all else, he was Papa. The best Papa. who loved his grandkids with his entire soul.

Dave was preceded in death by his wife Deborah Carpenter, stepfather Charles Stragier, five aunts and uncles, grandparents and God daughter, Nicole Roberts (David). He is survived by his loving mother Gloria Stragier, Father David Carpenter, son Ryan (Rachel), daughter Kasey (Sawyer), and grandchildren Charles, Bennington, Nevaeh, Elijah, and Alex, brothers, Scott (Monique) Carpenter, Nick Carpenter and nieces and nephews, Colin, Allica, Morghan, Brindlea, Kayden and Jack.

Dave's presence will be deeply missed throughout the community, but forever remembered-for his kind heart, his unmistakable laugh, and the deep love he had for his family and friends.

Following services at Palmer Bush & Jensen, there will be a "happy hour" celebration at Buddies in Holt from 5:30-8:00pm. Please join the family to continue to share memories of Dave.

Gone too soon. Dave and I graduated together in 1977. I´m so grateful I ran into him at Kroger last year. He was always kind to everyone. RIP
