David Michael Carson

David M. Carson was born on March 13, 1939, to David and Marjorie Carson in Kansas City, Kansas, and died on March 11, 2024. He is survived by his daughter, Catherine Leslie Carson of Hawaii, and his brother, Philp R. Carson of Lenexa, Kansas, and his sister, Elizabeth Carson of Wichita, Kansas along with three nieces, Jessica Plummer, Faith Plummer, and Lauren Dunham, and a nephew Andrew Plumm.
David married Bonnie Bachert in June 1961. They were divorced in May 1973 although they remained friends. In 1984, he married Sue Bennett. With his marriage to Sue, he became a stepdad to four stepdaughters, KC, Chilton, Robin, and Vicky. Sue and David were together until Sue's death in 2004. After Sue's death, David remained close to his stepdaughters.
David was a Summerfield Scholar at the University of Kansas and graduated with a degree in physics. He obtained a Masters degree in Physics from Oregon State in December 1966. He was a lecturer in the Mathematics and Statistics Department at the University of Guelph Ontario from 1967 to 1969.
From Guelph, he traveled to Columbus, Ohio where he wrote computer manuals for a gas company for a time and spent one day in law school. He quickly decided the law was not for him.
In June 1971, Bonnie and David moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he worked in the loan department of the Guaranty State Bank. There were other jobs along the way, but eventually, David found a calling as a delivery truck driver and raconteur. David knew all the streets in Kansas City and he loved maps. He loved to read and to write. He was a regular at one or another dive bar in the Westport area. He could tell a great story and had an infectious laugh. He took great interest in the people he met and formed many lasting friendships. David's good humor, wit, and great laugh will be missed by all.
