David Cates Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Whitsell Funeral Home - Morganfield on Mar. 18, 2025.
David Glenn Cates
May 4, 1956 – March 16, 2025
David Glenn Cates, 68, of Morganfield, KY, passed away in the morning hours of March 16, 2025. He was born on May 4, 1956, in Henderson to Charles Beverly Cates and Melba Lucille (McClure) Cates.
On March 5, 1983, David married the love of his life, Benita Diane (Paris) Cates, and together they built a home filled with love, faith, and service. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Nita; his sons, Joel David Cates (Kelli) of Paducah, KY, and Charles "Luke" Cates (Katie) of Morganfield, KY; and his cherished grandchildren, Liam Joshua Cates and Cameron Lucas Cates. He is also survived by his sister, Beverly Jean (Cates) Paris (Dana), and his beloved nieces and nephew: Abby Paris, Amy Paris, John Paris (Sally), and Jessica Paris, and her grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
David worked with his hands and his heart. He spent his career as a welder, pipefitter, fabricator, and maintenance worker, always known for his skill and dedication. But beyond his work, he was known for his willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need.
David's great passion was serving his church family. As a longtime elder and treasurer at Grace Fellowship Church, where he had worshipped and served since 1991, he faithfully stewarded both resources and relationships. Whether maintaining the church, lending a hand, or encouraging those around him, David lived out his faith in quiet, steady devotion.
His life was a reflection of Micah 6:8:
"He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?"
David lived these words every day, and his legacy of love, faithfulness, and service will continue in the lives of those he touched.
Funeral service will be 1 PM Thursday March 20, 2025 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield, KY. Rev Dwight Jackson will officiate. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Wednesday and 10 AM until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson, KY. Memorial contributions can be made to the Gideons, 1839 SR 270 East, Sturgis, Ky 42459.
