David Ray Chandanais was born on August 30, 1946, in Flint, Michigan, to Raymond and Margaret (Penzin) Chandanais. From the very beginning, David carried a spirit of dedication, curiosity, and warmth that touched everyone who knew him.

On June 10, 1967, three days after Mary Patricia (Jones) graduated from Bendle High School, David married the love of his life, Mary Patricia (Jones) Chandanais, in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Together, they shared over five decades of love, laughter, and partnership until Mary's passing in 2020. Their marriage was the foundation of a family that David cherished above all else.

David was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his sons, Jeremy (Tammy Burton) and Jason Chandanais; grandchildren Jordan, Hailey (Matthew West), Madison, and Mathew; and great-grandchildren Geneva, Korbyn, Oliver, Theodore, Malakai, and Averie. He also leaves behind his sisters, Cheryl Colliver-Paulsen and Christine Clemens MacZulat. Family gatherings and celebrations were brighter with David at the center, sharing his humor, guidance, and love.

David was a graduate of Bendle High School in Burton, Michigan, and attended Mott Community College in Flint. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, reflecting his steadfast sense of duty and honor.

He devoted his career to General Motors and the UAW, holding numerous leadership roles, including Shop Chairman at the Chevy Flint V8 Engine Plant under UAW Local 659, and later an international appointment to GM/UAW Health and Safety. His dedication to workers' rights and safety earned him the Walter P. Reuther Award, one of labor's highest honors.

David's life was defined by integrity, compassion, and service-to his family, his community, and his country. He will be remembered for his sharp wit, steady guidance, and the countless lives he touched through his leadership and love.
