David H Clark passed peacefully away on November 16, 2024, at the NES Facility in Roosevelt, Utah surrounded by family and friends.
He was born March 10, 1960, in Vernal, Utah to Iseral Justus “Jay” and Lola Penfold Clark. He was welcomed home by three older brothers and three older sisters. He would be joined by one sister a year later He was the seventh of eight children.
David had a special little spirit that has defeated many odds in his life. He was born with Down Syndrome and was quite sickly and spent some time in and out of the hospital. His family was very determined that he would learn and grow and have a full life. Many people did not think that was possible, but he showed them that he could. He learned to walk at the age of three and has not slowed down since. He started riding a horse at about the same age. He loved his horse and would set for hours on that horse no matter how hot or cold. Many days spending the entire day mounted up there even if they did not move at all. He later became a very good little cowboy and spent many hours riding with his dad to check and roundup the cows. Not only riding but also helping with working the chutes during branding and vaccinating the livestock.
He lived in Lapoint, Utah, until the age of twelve years, then moved with his parents to Grantsville, Utah, where he lived for about thirty-four years. From 1972 to 2006. In 2006 he moved back to the Uintah Basin with his parents and lived with them until their health declined to the point they could no longer care for him. For a short time he stayed in Lapoint with is brother, Tiny Max and his wife, Mary Lee. Early in 2013 he came to live with his sister, Theda and her husband, Kendall. He lived with Kendall and Theda until April 2018 when he became a resident of NES and lived in an apartment with two very special young men, John and Gary.  After being together for six years they developed deep and loving friendship. This gave David an opportunity to do many activities with peers which was a very good growing experience for him.
He loved going to the Zoo, Lagoon, camping trips, the Aquarian, Special Olympics and many other activities. He participated in many Special Olympics winning several medals of which he was so proud of. One yearly highlight was when family gathered with him to participate in the annual Torch Run for Special Olympics. His niece and her family were able to participate with him for 13 years. Many other family members joined him as they could.
David loved learning and being around people. He was privileged to attend the following Institutes of Learning: He attended Kindergarten at Whiterocks Elementary, then the New Life Training Center in Maeser, Utah, Edgemont Elementary in Tooele, Utah, and the Oquirrh Hills School in Tooele, Utah. He loved going to school and being involved in swimming, cooking class, field trips and Special Olympics. David also participated in the NES Day Services for the past twelve years.
