Mark Dean Pope, age 73, of LaPoint, Utah, passed away peacefully at his home on January 21, 2026.
Mark was born on September 13, 1952, in Heber City, Utah, to Arza Ephraim Pope and Marie Draper Greenland. He proudly served in the United States Army, an experience he carried with honor throughout his life.
On December 18, 1971, Mark married the love of his life, Arlisa Iorg in LaPoint, Utah. Together they shared 54 years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, humor, family and friendship.
Mark worked for many years as a water truck driver. He also dedicated much of his time to serving his community through his work with the Ute Tribe Search and Rescue, where he served for many years, and by helping with the Sundance each year. He took great pride in this service and the role he played in supporting others.
Mark was known for his wonderful sense of humor, friendly spirit, and warm personality. He always had a twinkle in his eye and the best smile. If he knew you, he probably had a nickname for you. He was a great friend to many and brought joy wherever he went. He enjoyed watching TV and movies, playing his guitar, ordering gadgets through Publishers Clearing House and hanging out with grandkids.
Mark is survived by his wife, Arlisa Pope of LaPoint; his son, Dillon Pope of LaPoint; his grandchildren Dakota Slaugh (Rachel Jolley), MeLynda Slaugh, Josey (Steven) Gordy, Avi, Cashton, Riggs, Peyton, Jaxton, and Braxton; his siblings Randall Pope and Annette Miller; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter,Marquita Slaugh; his siblings Jay Pope, DeMar Pope; and his parents.
A viewing will be held at Hullinger Mortuary on Monday, January 26, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Cremation will follow the viewing.
