David Clevenger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Poland-Thompson Funeral Home on Sep. 5, 2025.
David Lee Clevenger, of Winlock, Washington, passed away on August 15, 2025, at the age of 81.
David was born on October 24, 1943, in South Bend, Indiana, to Cleo and Wilma Clevenger. After graduating from John H. Francis Polytechnic High School in 1961, he served four years in the U.S. Air Force. Following his military service, he pursued his education and graduated from Henry Cogswell College with a degree in electrical engineering.
He built a long and accomplished career with Boeing, where he worked for 35 years and retired as a Chief Engineer. Through dedication and hard work, he contributed significantly to his field. After retiring from Boeing, David continued to apply his technical skills at the Lucky Eagle Casino, working as a software engineer for 17 years until his second retirement.
David was a philomath-always curious and inquisitive. He was passionate about expanding his knowledge and exploring new interests. He poured his energy into building their property from raw land into Whispering Elm Ranch, a project he passionately undertook alongside his wife, Sheri, exemplifying his love for craftsmanship and his dedication to creating something meaningful.
Outside of work and construction, David loved the outdoors and a wide variety of hobbies. He enjoyed hiking, camping, and traveling to fish for walleye, salmon, and halibut, with Kodiak, Alaska, being his favorite destination. It was a place of peace and joy for him, and some of his ashes will be spread there in his memory.
His passions extended beyond the outdoors. He loved SCUBA diving, woodworking in all its aspects, RC airplanes, flying his drone, and exploring new skills. His diverse interests reflected his inquisitive nature and zest for life.
Later in life, David dedicated himself to the study of Kokondo Karate, training diligently for many years and achieving the rank of 5th Degree Black Belt (Godan), Master. He also opened his own dojo, sharing his love and knowledge of the art with others.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Sheri; his children, David "Eddie," Michele, Ryan, and James; and his grandchildren, Greyson, Hunter, Logan, William, David, Oliver, Adam (Lauren), Nick, and Ariel. His great-grandchildren, Sophie, Grant, Bentley, and Jaxon brought him great joy. He will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, teacher, and friend who touched many lives.
A private Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends to attend on September 6th, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
David's life was marked by dedication, curiosity, and love. His legacy will live on in the memories of those who knew him and, in the lessons, he shared through his passions, pursuits, and the example of a lifelong learner.
