David Marshal Cooper, 85, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father and “Grinchy” to his granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents William Marshal “Buster” & Beulah Kingery Cooper, oldest brother Daniel of Florida and younger brother Donny of Rocky Mount. He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Barbara; daughter Marcy (Chris); and son Aaron (Cathy); granddaughters Corinne & Kaija. Also survived by sister Debbie (Randy); brother Dale (Sandra); sister-in-law Ella; and many precious nieces and nephews plus grandnephews & grandnieces.
David loved softball and played for over 20 years with his church and for various teams. He was a man who liked to work with his hands and created many beautiful pieces of woodworking, walking sticks and decorative boxes. He even crafted wooden toys for his granddaughters. Later in life he took up sketching, drawing & painting.
Many thanks to South Roanoke Nursing home for their excellent care during his rehab and much gratitude to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Palliative Care for their kind and compassionate service.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:30 AM Friday, October 31, 2025 at Bethany Church of the Brethren with Pastor Jessi Slusher presiding with a meal to follow. In lieu of flowers, please give donations to Bethany Church of the Brethren or a charity of your choice.
