David Syren “Dave” Coston, age 67, of Belding, passed away at home under hospice care surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, October 1, 2025. He was born on December 5, 1957, in Sheridan, Michigan, son of Jack Darwin and Sonja Diane (Newberg) Coston, both of whom preceded him in death. David was educated in schools in several locations as he moved with his family during his youth as his father was transferred by the military and completed his high school years at Aniston High School in Aniston, Alabama. Following in his father’s footsteps, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. After settling in the Belding area, he worked for Gibsons/Electrolux among other manufacturers, prior to starting his career with the prison system in Ionia, retiring after nearly thirty years. He married Leanna R. Marsh on April 28, 1979, and has shared over 45 years of marriage with her. While not working Dave enjoyed collecting sports and other memorabilia of all types. He especially loved getting an item signed by the person whos likeness, or jersey number or some other identifier was present. He would write a letter and request the autograph and if he already had a picture, ball or puck, etc., he would package it up and mail it to the person with a request for a signature and return. Much to his family’s surprise, he had great success in getting a response and has countless items signed by politicians-both domestic and international, sports stars, movie stars, astronauts and more. Dave enjoyed reconnecting and organizing reunions with other “military kids” he had gotten to know and attended school with throughout his travels. Dave loved his family, and he loved his dear cat, “Cheese” who, along with the grandkids, he looked forward to coming home to from hospital visits.
Dave leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Leanna of Belding; children Kayce (Charles) Laper of Belding, David (Niccole) Coston of Belding and Danielle (Chris) Rytlewski of Greenville; grandchildren Aidan Slayton of Belding, Dominik Laper of Belding, Damon Coston of Belding and Madalynn Rytlewski of Greenville; siblings Tim Coston of Greenville, Diane Coston of Belding; and several nieces, nephews , cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Tom and his twin brother, Duane.
