David E. Crane, age 93, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025 in Zanesville, Ohio. David enjoyed a long career in agriculture including operating a dairy with his father and uncle.
David made friends and had an impact wherever he went. He worked with church youth groups and 4H. David was also involved with Grange for decades. Late last year, David received a letter from an 80 year old man that been mentored by him when the man was a teenager. He wrote to thank David for being a great role model and he made a donation to the church in David's honor. Last week, a young man that had met David in the past few years, stated "they don't make men like him anymore". These speak to the kind of man David was.
David was a generous man supporting many charities including decades of support for Boys Town. He also saved hundreds of lives donating platelets as often as medically allowed for decades. He received several awards for being a top donor for Plateletpheresis.
He loved his family, friends, his dog Lady and bluegrass music.
David is survived by his daughter, Susan Livingstone, two older sisters, Patricia Miller and Vivian deBrito, grandchildren, Christine Cully and Troy Livingstone, great-grandchildren, Camryn Cully, Connor Cully and David Livingstone (named after his great-grandfather), his best friend Mel Kendall and many nieces and nephews.
A grave side ceremony will be held March 28, 2025, 11:00 am at the Shalersville Hillside Cemetery followed by a celebration of life at the Portage Faith United Methodist Church, 9922 SR 44, Mantua, Ohio.
