David Culver Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gresham Memorial Chapel on Mar. 30, 2026.
David Lewis Culver passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, at his home in Troutdale, Oregon. He was born on April 14, 1946, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Roland and Amy Culver of North Ogden, Utah.

Dave dedicated his life to education and mentorship, spending 30 years as a public educator and coach at Washington and Grant High Schools. A respected high school basketball and football coach, he impacted countless students and athletes, leaving a lasting legacy both in the classroom and on the field.

He earned his undergraduate degree from Utah State University and went on to complete graduate studies at Lewis & Clark.

On September 14, 1969, Dave married the love of his life, Gayle Culver. Together, they built a life centered on family, friendship, and shared adventure. Gayle preceded him in death in September 2024.

Dave is survived by his two sons, K.C. Culver (Cheryl) of Troutdale, Oregon, and Ben Culver (Mandy) of Missoula, Montana. He was a proud grandfather to Jacob (Averi), Brock (Hailey), Anika, Parker, and Riley, and a great-grandfather to Paislee, Ryder, Carter, and Kaysen.

Dave took immense joy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was deeply proud of his sons and their accomplishments.

Dave is also survived by his siblings Ron, Trudy, and Marsha. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sue.

Outside of his career, Dave loved golfing, gardening, and spending summers on the houseboat at Lake Billy Chinook. He and Gayle enjoyed traveling, often with lifelong friends with whom they shared many cherished memories. A devoted sports fan, Dave rarely missed a chance to cheer on the Seahawks, Trail Blazers, and Mariners.

Dave will be remembered for his deep love of family, his lifelong friendships, and the pride he took in those closest to him.
