David Ellery Curtis Sr.

ALBURGH - David E. Curtis, Sr. a former Burlingtonian, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans at the age of 82.

 

He was born in South Orange, New Jersey on January 10, 1941 to the late Arthur & Ruth (Baker) Curtis.

 

David was an intellect in every sense of the word. He graduated from high school at the age of 17 and then went on to earn his Bachelor's degree from Parsons College. His career in education began as a social studies teacher in the inner city of Bergen County, NJ. His journey through education brought him into administration where he was able to influence many lives over the course of his career. David also earned his Masters degree in political science from Seton Hall. After 30 years in education, he began his next adventure - in residential construction.

 

David carried the same strengths he had in education administration onto the job site. He would often be found educating the new homeowner about the construction of their building, and keeping his construction crew on task throughout the process. He was very successful in this role, and was working 10 hour days just two weeks prior to his passing.

 

David had the innate gift of being present in the moment. He was a dichotomy and could fit in with any crowd or situation. David was the type of man you either loved, or didn't. If you were lucky enough to love him, then you are lucky enough! As an avid boater, David's most cherished memories were in Vermont on Lake Champlain and North Shore Road in Charlotte with his family. He had an intentionally whimsical spirit that will be missed by the sunsets of Lake Champlain and all of us.

 

He is survived by his children, Kristen Curtis of Collingswood, NJ, and David Curtis Jr. and his wife Corinne of Castle Creek, NY; six grandchildren, Corrigan and Cleary Maxfield, and Jack, Deacon, Kainen, and Londyn Curtis; and many friends and acquaintances throughout the northeast. In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his brothers, Jack Curtis and John Curtis.

 

In keeping with David's wishes his family will be holding a private memorial service at their convenience.
