David Walter Cwiakala passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025, surrounded by his family at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Born and raised in Muskegon, Michigan, David built a life defined by hard work, quiet strength, and deep devotion to those he loved. In 1983, he and his family moved to Goldsboro, North Carolina after accepting a promotion in the auto manufacturing industry. Over the course of his career, he worked his way from a lineman to sub plant manager, earning the respect of colleagues through his dedication, humility, and leadership.
David was the son of the late Walter Steven Cwiakala and Florence Crampton Cwiakala. He was preceded in death by his brother, Stephen Joseph Cwiakala; and brother-in-law, Rollie Lange.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Brenda McKenzie Cwiakala; his children, Heather Wilkinson and husband Brad, and their son Tyler; Kimberland Jordan and husband Peter, and their son Heath; and Christopher Cwiakala and wife Amanda, and their daughters Jayde and Ivey (Ashton) McGee. He is also survived by his sisters Carol Lange, Sandy (Thom) Knoll, Sue (Mack) McKenzie; along with his sister-in-law, Patricia Cwiakala; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
To all who knew him, David was a kind, loving, gentle giant-steadfast in faith and generous in spirit. He was often heard humming a tune or listening to music, never turned down a sweet treat-especially ice cream-and always had a joke ready to share. His faithful dog, Missy Marie, was never far from his side. He found joy in fishing, tinkering in the yard, UNC basketball, Michigan football, and auto racing. His wife and family were the center of his world, and he took immense pride in his grandchildren, celebrating their accomplishments with unmatched joy.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation at Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro, NC, on Sunday, November 23rd, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to offer an expression of sympathy, are encouraged to give a donation in David's name to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or to a local animal shelter of choice.
The family is in the care of Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
