David “Dave” L. Shannon, of Myrtle Beach, SC, a beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away on the evening of July 22, 2024, in his home. David was born on March 13, 1951, in Canton. He was the third child and second son of Walter and Theresa Shannon.

Dave’s life was marked by diverse interests and contributions. As a child, he was very active. Dave loved playing youth hockey, with his father, Walt, as his coach. He was also involved in Boy Scouts, having achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. After graduating high school in LaFayette, Dave served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His dedication to duty and sacrifice for his country exemplified his character and commitment to his family.

A proud father of three sons, Dave cherished every moment he spent with his children. As an avid sports fan, he cheered passionately for his favorite teams, including the NY Rangers and Oakland Raiders, sharing the excitement with family and friends. Dave was an active member of his community. Taking after his father, Dave coached youth hockey in Camillus, instilling discipline, teamwork, and a love for the game in young athletes. In addition, he could be found volunteering as a member of the pit crew with the West Genesee High School marching band.

As a hardworking entrepreneur, Dave co-owned Marwol Products in Syracuse and later managed Castle Liquor Store in Myrtle Beach, SC. He had a strong work ethic that earned him respect within the community. Beyond his professional pursuits, Dave had a passion for staying active, finding joy in both the gym and the pool but also had a sweet tooth, whether it was a slice of pie or a decadent chocolate cake, he appreciated life’s simple pleasures.

Dave was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Theresa Shannon; brother, Walt Shannon; and sister, Carole Dwyer.

He is survived by his sons, Douglas Shannon of Camillus, Michael (Angie) Shannon of Queen Creek, AZ, and Patrick (Kelley) Shannon of Albany; granddaughter, Julia Shannon; sister, Martha (Dan) Meegan of Gulfport, FL; brother-in-law, Bob Dwyer of Myrtle Beach, SC; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.

In honor of Dave’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 9 to 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will follow in the church.
