US Army and US Marine veteran, David Otto "Butch" Davis, 70 of Martinsville, gained eternal rest after years of failing health at 9:40 pm on Friday, April 26th, 2024. Butch was one of eight children born to Abel B. and Vivian Irene (Schnackenberg) Davis. He was born on Monday, January 11th, 1954, in Beech Grove, Indiana.
He lived most of his early life in Kokomo, Indiana, moving to Martinsville approximately thirty-six years ago. After high school, Butch served his country with bravery during the Vietnam War. He first served in the U.S. Marines and then reenlisted in the U.S. Army, where he eventually retired after a combined twenty years in the military.
On Valentine's Day of 1990, he married the love of his life, LaDonna Sue (Hatfield). The two shared thirty-four years of marriage packed full of cherished memories. Butch and LaDonna loved to go fishing and camping with their family, which was his favorite pastime. He cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, often sharing stories with them about his military career. His grandchildren were undeniably the light of his life, which would explain the joy he gained from raising four of them including Mary Noel, Anastasia Mills, Jeremy Noel Jr. and Cynthia Mills-Davis.
After retiring from the US Military, Butch went to work at Quality TV in Martinsville for several years, then at the Super 8 Hotel and finally, the Best Western in Martinsville where he worked until his medical disability as the front desk manager.
He will be lovingly remembered by a host of family and friends including his wife, LaDonna Sue Davis of Martinsville; mother, Vivian Davis of Kokomo, IN; two sons, David "B.J." (wife, Amy) Davis Jr. of Virginia and Toby Davis of Indiana; two brothers, John (wife, Cece) Davis of Burlington, IN, and Tom (wife, Julie) Davis of Kokomo, IN; four sisters, Sharon (husband, Bret) Schreckenghaust of Russiaville, IN, Sara Wray, Sue Dietzen and Sheila (husband, Larry) Hooper all of Kokomo, IN; nine step children, Marilyn Amyx, Lisa Woods, Monica Tomacelli, Ronald Woods Jr., Heidi Reynolds, Jeremy Noel Sr., Stacy Schirle, Jessica Noel and Devon Noel; thirty-two grandchildren and two beloved great grandchildren.
Along with his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, William Davis.
In honoring his wishes, Butch's earthly remains will be cremated, and his family will be hosting a celebration of life memorial service at a later date.

You had just an amazing heart, sense of humor, and blunt sense of reality of this world. Thank you for helping me push through such a trying time of my life. You reminded me to not work too hard, and to take each day in stride. Thank you for being an amazing Father figure, and for still loving me like a daughter even when I couldn´t come see you as much as I desired. You´re loved David, forever the best Valentine a goober like me could have asked for. I miss you so much!
