At age 13, David became a Christian and joined Northside Baptist Church located in Odessa, Texas. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1968 and continued his education at Texas A&M University in College Station. He was in the Corps of Cadets and marched on the Bugle Rank in the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band. He also served as President of the Student Chapter of the National Association of Home Builders.

He was their Area Manager for Dallas and the surrounding areas. In 2018, after 44 years of service, came retirement.
