I was at Rutgers Grad school with David. He was one of the Imperfect Competitors who always had a kind and encouraging word to say to us new graduate students. My condolences to David's family.

I'm sorry to hear of David's passing. I have many great memories of David at RU. I recall many days when he was headed off to his "union meeting," with tennis racquet in hand. One of the really nice guys and perhaps the only one who spent more time in the grad program at RU than me.

I attended Graduate school with David in the late 70s, and early 80s. I greatly enjoyed my times working, studying and laughing with him. A good time was had by all when David was around! It has been thirty years since we've talked, but his personality, his buoyancy and laughter remain memorable.

David will truly be missed. I only worked with him for one year at UR but I will never forget his great spirit both in the classroom (where I know he was dearly loved) and on the bowling alley (where he kept those meticulous stats that he revealed about all of us to our students :-)). My heartfelt condolences to his family.

I am so very sorry to hear about the loss of Dr. Dean. He was one of my very favorite professors at UR and I have very fond memories of his class. My thoughts are with the family at this time.

Oh, David. You left this world too soon. Your humor, brilliance, and generosity will always brighten my memories. You were a most generous and memorable friend. Rest in peace. My thoughts are with you and your boys.

I did not personally know David, but I was in room next to him on the BMT ward. I sensed a critical moment was approaching and was impressed by the attendance of loved ones who knew him so well. I wish I had the chance to know him, I rejoice at the impact he made on all those he encountered and thus his spirit continues. My deepest condolences to all who have lost David.

Dr. Dean was hands down the best professor I had at UR. He played a huge role in shaping my college experience and professional plans. I always admired his boundless energy and ability to challenge and mentor his students at the same time. Best wishes to Dr. Dean's family during this difficult time.
