Mr. David M. Dean of Sparrowbush, NY passed away with his loving family by his side on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at the age of 74 after a brave battle with Alzheimer's disease. A lifelong resident of the area, he was born May 30, 1950 in Port Jervis, NY the son of George N. Dean and Elsie J. Walter Dean.
Dave married the love of his life, Michele B. Barmann, whom he affectionately referred to as "Mac" on September 11, 1977.
Family, community and the great outdoors were the most important facets of Dave's life. He felt his greatest accomplishment was raising his two children Alyson and Erin. Though he held jobs as a Project Manager for Garden Homes and later owned and operated Dispoz-A-Blade, his favorite promotion was to "Papa". Spending time with his grandsons Colton and Lucas Rutigliano and Cadhan and Sean Kyne gave him great joy and purpose. He loved telling them jokes, pretending to steal their noses, and asking when their mustaches would grow in.
Dave loved spending time outdoors; hunting, fishing and enjoying the scenery. Tailgating before concerts with his wife and close friends at Bethel Woods was a favorite way to spend a summer evening. Dave and Michele enjoyed many long rides in their Z with the top down and wind in their hair. The Cahoonzie Club, his beloved hunting club, holds many special memories for him and his family. Dave spent many hours in the woods and on the water with his best friend Mike Decker. His most cherished hunting companion was his black lab Rush, who retrieved many a duck, goose, and quite a few sticks.
To honor his community, Dave served the Town of Deerpark for over 25 years. His roles included Planning Board, Town Councilman and also as Deputy Supervisor. He served as the Town of Deerpark Representative for the Upper Delaware River Council, another role in which he advocated for the land he loved. Dave enjoyed teaching younger generations to honor the land, wild game, and firearms through his work as a NYS Hunter Safety Course Educator.
A great husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, he leaves behind a beautiful family to carry on his legacy. His loving family includes: Wife Michele Dean at home, Daughter Alyson Rutigliano, her husband Joseph and their sons Colton and Lucas of the Town Of Greenville, NY, Daughter Erin Kyne, her husband Padraic and their sons Cadhan and Sean of Ossining, NY, Sister Sandra Entrup, her husband Scott and their sons Dean and Mark of Hilton Head, SC, Sister Sharon Briggs, her husband Allen and their children Sarah and Scott of Cape Vincent, NY, Niece Amanda Barmann Castelonia and late Nephew Jerry Barmann.
He was predeceased by his Brother-In-Law, David Barmann.
As per Dave's wishes, there will be no formal visitation or funeral services. His family asks that instead you spend time with loved ones and share a memory of him. A celebration of life will be held privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tunnel to Towers foundation at https://t2t.org/ or a charity of your choice.

The Upper Delaware Council expresses our sympathy. Dave ably served as the Town of Deerpark's UDC Representative for 10 years through 2021 and continued to participate with Michele in our annual Upper Delaware Litter Sweeps. He's also pictured accepting the Deerpark Republican of the Year Award on March 17, 2024 at the Erie Trackside Manor in Port Jervis.

I met David a long time ago when he was a young man. He was dating, got engaged and then married my sister-in-law, Michelle. He was a genuine and caring person. They loved each other very much. He was a very special uncle to my son Jerry. They shared many wonderful times on the river together. May God bless him and my prayers for Michelle and family.

Working with someone for many years who always could spot a red tailed hawk and point it out. Stopping what we're doing and admiring a flock of geese flying over. Coming out to the farm and admiring the large hardwood trees. Always talking about family and how he wanted to instill these values and appreciations to his grandchildren. What that says about a person you can't describe. We'll miss you Dave. Rob
