Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. - MolineDavid Paul DeDecker, 85, of Orion, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery, Orion where military honors will be conducted. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Q.C. Paws or the Orion American Legion Post #255.
Dave was born on October 4, 1940, in Iowa City, IA, the son of John and Dorothy (Haines) DeDecker. He married Sandy Gannon on February 5, 1961, in Warner Castle in Warner. She preceded him in death on December 19, 1990. He later married Sue E. Payne on November 15, 1994, in Cedar Key, FL. Dave was a U.S. Veteran, having served in the Air Force from 1959-1966. He had worked as an assembler and later as supervisor at John Deere Cylinder Division, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of the Orion American Legion Post #255, the Orion United Methodist Church, and the Orion Sportsman’s Club. He loved fishing and was active with The QC InFisherman Club and also with the FLW (Fishing League Worldwide) Walleye Tour for 12 years. In his earlier years, he was an accomplished hunter and trapper. He volunteered his time at EZ Livin’ in Milan and was lovingly known as the “Mayor of Warner”.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; children, Robin DeDecker of Rock Island, Denise (Scott) DeDecker of Rock Island, Michelle (Rick) Payne of Tiffin, IA, Lynn (Shawn) Shipley of Silvis, Jodi (Gary) DeDecker-Bubar of Marissa, IL; 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild on the way; sister, Peggy (Jerry) Ricky of Geneseo; stepbrother, Tom “Moose” Vanderbilt of Grand Mound, IA; sister-in-law, Carollyn Vanderbilt of Sabula, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Dorothy; brother, Gary Vanderbilt; and his first wife, Sandy.
