David Dewitz, age 60, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, February 6, 2026.
David was born on November 26, 1965, in Waupun, the son of Earl and Virginia (Nitschke) Dewitz. He graduated from Oakfield High School in 1983. Following graduation, David joined the United States Navy, proudly serving his country for four years in San Diego. After returning to Oakfield, he worked at Badger Liquor and spent several years as a truck driver. He later began his career at Gleason Reel, where he worked as an assembler for the past 29 years.
David enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, darts, baseball, and softball. He especially enjoyed fishing in walleye tournaments with his son, Joshua, brother, Rodney, his nephews, and friends. David was a member of the Oakfield Conservation Club, where he liked helping with the spring banquet. For the past 21 years, he also enjoyed playing Santa, something he took great pride in.
David is survived by his wife, Mary, of 23 years; his son, Josh Dewitz; his mother, Virginia Dewitz; brothers, Mark (Carrie Gilson) Dewitz and Rodney (fiancée, Wendi Bosch) Dewitz; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Sheri (Derry) Darnick, Gary (Cindy) Sullivan, Larry (Gail) Sullivan, and Teri Schulz;and further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl "Squeak" Dewitz; his father-in-law and mother-in-law; brother-in-law, Kevin Schulz; and other relatives.
Visitation for David will take place at Werner Harmsen Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also take place on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Edward Nitschke officiating. Burial will follow at Avoca Cemetery in Oakfield.
