Connell Funeral Home, Inc.David A. Donio (age 70, born May 21, 1955), of Bethlehem, died at home Sunday morning, August 17th, 2025, after a long illness. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 28 years, Bernadette Holland, and his two children, Sallie Wemple, M.D. of Bethlehem (husband Alex), and David A. Donio, Jr of Philadelphia.
David was the youngest child of the late Dominic A. Donio, M.D. and Adeline Stravino Donio, of Allentown. He was predeceased by brothers John Donio and Anthony Donio, and sister Adeline Donio. He is survived by two brothers, Dominic Donio, Jr of Bellevue, Washington, and Peter Donio of Blu ton, South Carolina. David is also survived by three grandchildren, Marie, Michael and Timothy, as well as many nieces and nephews.
David was a 1974 graduate of Moravian Academy, a 1978 graduate of Moravian College, and later received a Master's Degree in journalism from Kutztown University. He started his career in television production at Lehigh Valley PBS, and later became Vice President of Development. His active television career included directing camera for ESPN, MLB and NFL sports, as well as the WWF. Later, he worked for Service Electric Sports directing camera for Iron Pigs baseball and high school and college
sports throughout the Lehigh Valley. He retired in 2017 to enjoy hobbies of fishing, hunting, playing golf and spending time with family.
David was active in the community, serving as president of Lehigh County Historical Society, Moravian College business development board, and the Wildlands Conservancy in Allentown. He was also an Eagle Scout and supported local boy scouts.
David was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish in Bethlehem Township.
David's family would like to thank the nurses, Mel, Kerri, Caroline, Patty, Lisa, Mary and the whole sta at Fresenius Kidney Care Bethlehem for their wonderful, compassionate care and friendship.
A calling hour will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025 from 10-11 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 3219 Santee Rd. Bethlehem, PA 18020. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in the Church. Burial at Mt. Carmel Italian Cemetery will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers or donations, he requested you take your loved ones out to dinner.
Memories and condolences can be left on the obituary at the funeral home website.
The nightly ceremony in Washington, D.C. will be dedicated in honor of your loved one on the day of your choosing.
