David DOST Obituary

December 6, 1971 - May 6, 2025

David D. Dost, aged 53, of Spokane, WA, passed away on May 6, 2025, of natural causes. Born on December 6, 1971, Dave was known for his fierce love for his family and friends, all of whom loved him deeply in return. His intelligence and readiness to assist those he loved marked him as a beloved figure not only among personal circles but also at his workplace at the Safeway Bakery, where coworkers became as close as family.

Dave completed his education at Bothell High School and furthered his studies at Lake Washington Technical College Culinary School. His thirst for knowledge was evident in his constant reading and his ability to always offer a well-thought-out perspective on a wide range of topics.

A man of many interests, Dave cherished the time spent playing games with friends, most notably his best friend, Jake Rattet, playing the trombone in the local school play, Ham on Regal, and immersing himself in music, which was a significant part of his life. His sense of humor brought joy to many, and his culinary skills were a treat to those close to him.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Tanya Dost; sister, Patty Dost and her husband, Dave Anderson; aunt, Linda Dimmick; father and mother-in-law, Curt and Wendy Shoemaker; sister and brother-in-law, Tracy and Tom Blue; brother and sister-in-law, Brett and Wendy Shoemaker; nieces, Kaylen and her husband Griffin Kociela, Hollie and her husband, Bailey Weir, Emma, Ellie, and Emelia Shoemaker; and great-niece, Juniper Joy Kociela. He was preceded in death by his parents, Beth and Don Dost.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Dave's memory to Meals on Wheels or your local food bank, continuing his legacy of caring and support for the community.

I will always miss Dave. Dave and I met in culinary school and quickly became the best of friends. I cherished my time with him, and his memory will always be a blessing to me. Few people are as kind, genuine and caring as Dave was. I love you, buddy.

I knew Dave back in high school. We lost contact but found friendship again when he started working at the bakery at Safeway. News of his passing is a huge shock. My condolences to all that knew him and loved him.
I will care for your cats anytime Dave!! You will be missed my friend.
