David F. "Dave" Drabek, age 79, a resident of Plainfield, IL, since 1994, formerly of Chicago and Bolingbrook, IL, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 10, 2025. He was born on May 2, 1946, in Chicago.
Beloved husband of Susan C. Drabek (nee Otten), whom he married June 22, 1968, loving father of Jeff (Barbara) Drabek of Plainfield, IL and Margaret Payne of Las Vegas, NV, adored grandfather of Nicole and Kirsten Drabek; Emma Payne, devoted son of the late James and Frances (nee Matejka) Drabek, dear brother of the late Dolores "Dee" (the late James) Ebertsch and the late Richard Drabek, brother-in-law of Betty (the late David) Bartlett and the late Robert (the late Myrna) Otten, fond cousin, uncle, great-uncle and friend of many.
Dave grew up on Chicago's South Side and was a graduate of Lindblom High School. He began his work career with The National Tea Company, a Midwestern grocery chain, and later joined Flexible Steel Lacing in Downers Grove, IL, beginning as a tool and die maker and retiring after 42 years as a Product and Tool Design Engineer.
Dave was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, whose passion was Lake Michigan salmon fishing. He was a member of Salmon Unlimited and the Barber Greene Hunting and Fishing Club in Yorkville, IL.
A memorial visitation will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 15219 S. Joliet Rd., Plainfield, IL 60544. A celebration of Dave's life will follow on Tuesday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Interment will be private.
