David Alfred Dreiling, age 71, a devoted farmer and rancher from Ellis, Kansas, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023, in rural Ellis County, tragically as a result of a farming accident. He was born on September 13, 1952, in Hays, Kansas, to Alfred Raymond "Fritz" and Martha (Schoenthaler) Dreiling.
He graduated from St. Joseph's Military Academy of Hays in 1970 and earned a BS degree in mathematics from Fort Hays State University.
On July 10, 1982, he was married to Gail Lambrecht at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis.
David's life was a testament to his unwavering dedication to family, farming, and ranching. He ran the third generation family farm for 52 years, yet he always said "I've never worked a day in my life." He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Ellis Knights of Columbus 3rd degree.
He is survived by his wife, Gail, his children, and grandchildren. His son, Jake Dreiling, and daughter-in-law, Rebecca Dreiling, along with their daughter, Aspen Dreiling, reside in Ellis. His daughter, Joan Dreiling, and son-in-law, Alex Stamm, along with their daughter, Lucy Stamm, reside in Broomfield, Colorado. Additionally, David is survived by two sisters, Carol Halpern and husband Alex Halpern of Boulder, Colorado, and Pam Dreiling of Nova Scotia, Canada, and many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents.
A Funeral Mass to celebrate David's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at St. Mary's Church in Ellis, followed by inurnment in the church cemetery.
A memorial visitation is scheduled from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM on Tuesday, with a rosary service to follow, all at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to either scholarship funds for his grandchildren or St. Mary's School/Church, reflecting David's commitment to both education and his faith.
