Eberle-Fisher Funeral Home & Crematory - LondonDavid Andrew Duffy, 1950-2026
It is with great sadness we share the news that our beloved father, grandfather, and friend David passed away suddenly on the 27th of January at his home in London following a heart attack.
David was born in Newark, Ohio and spent a few of his early years near Hattiesburg MS, before returning to the Newark area, in the town of Frazeysburg. David was born to John Alsace Duffy and Hattie Mae (Carver) Duffy; he was one of their seven surviving children, Bobbie, Ralph, (David), Susie, Jackie, Eric, and Barbara Ann.
He graduated in 1968 from Tri Valley high school in Dresden, Ohio, and worked construction to pay his way through university at Ohio State, where he earned a degree in education in 1973. Shortly following graduation, he was married to Beth Richards, and they had a son, Kevin. David was divorced and later remarried with Peggy Sells. Though they also subsequently divorced, they remained lifelong friends. David taught history at West Jefferson schools for 30 years, primarily 8th grade U.S. history. He was heavily involved in the athletics program, coaching football, golf, and track & field, among others.
Following retirement from teaching at age 51, when he could squeeze it in around his golfing schedule, he continued working part-time, guiding student tours taking Ohio school kids around the historic sites of the region such as Gettysburg and Washington D.C with Prodigy Student Travel. He was a lover of games and sports, dogs, reading, and movies. David is survived by his son Kevin, daughter-in-law Tunde, and grandchildren Brynn and Flynn Duffy.
The family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to Deputy Cory Baldwin, Larry and Caroline Meyers and family, Terry and Norma James, Dana and Darby Fisher at Eberle-Fisher Funeral Home, Matt Daley, Matt Adkins, and American Legion Post 201 who have all lent a kind and helping hand in this difficult time.
There will be a open celebration of life remembrance on Saturday February 21st at 11am the American Legion Post 201 in West Jefferson (9701 US-40), where all are encouraged to come and share a story or a memory. This will be followed by a reception until 3pm; a light lunch buffet will be provided.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Humane Society of Madison County, 2020 State Route 142 NE, West Jefferson, Ohio 43162, or the Barely Used Pets shelter, 844 Jackson Hill Road, Urbana, Ohio 43078, as David would have wished; a collection box will be provided at the reception.
Condolences for the Duffy family are encouraged to be shared online at www.eberlefisherfuneralhome.com.
