Mothe Funeral Homes, LLC - MarreroDavid Anthony Dugas, Sr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the age of 67. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on August 19, 1958 to Nora and the late Alvin Dugas.
He is the husband of the late Lisa Maria Dugas; the long-term partner of Kathy Matherne; the father of David Dugas Jr. (Erica); the step-father of Kayla Edwards (Timmy), Catherine Matherne and Kaysie Willig (Chuck Davis); the grandfather of Benjamin Edwards and Charlotte Davis; uncle to Josh Nunez (Kelly), Justin Nunez (Rosita), and the late Joey Nunez, great-uncle to Stephanie Nunez Falcon (Brady), Kierstyn Nunez and Anita Nunez. He is also survived by his siblings, cousins, and many wonderful lifelong friends.
A native of New Orleans, David grew up in Avondale, spent much of his life in Marrero, and was a proud resident of Metairie, Louisiana for the later years of his life. David graduated from West Jefferson High School in the late 1970’s. David began his professional career at Winn Dixie, retiring in upper management.
David was loving, compassionate, and most of all a very caring person to all. He enjoyed spending time outdoors- camping, or watching football or baseball. He was an avid Disney enthusiast. David Jr. has wonderful childhood memories fishing and crabbing with his dad. He loved his vegetable garden and cooking, also. However, his true passion was spending time with his loving family and friends by hosting gatherings and playing board games. David was unique and irreplaceable, well respected and liked, and will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
His spirit and tender nature will remain in the many memories of his cherished friends and family until they meet him again.
