David B. Duguay of Albany, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House, lovingly holding the hand of his wife of 40 years, Kathy Duguay. He was 71.
Born on December 18, 1953, in Wiesbaden, Germany, Dave was the cherished son of Donald and Mildred (Dupont) Duguay, and brother of much-loved sister Dale (Duguay) Coker. Dave and Kathy Stoddard were married on August 24, 1985, at her parents' home in
Albany, Oregon, surrounded by close family and friends in a joyful, heartfelt ceremony that reflected the simplicity and depth of their love.
At the center of Dave's life was his unwavering love for his family. His greatest joy was found in his wife and his children-Justin, Michael, and Ashlee-and his grandchildren-Alexa, Carter, and Neil. He was endlessly proud of them, and he showed his love not just in words, but in everyday moments full of warmth, humor, and unwavering care. Some of Dave's most treasured memories were made sharing the outdoors with his children and grandchildren-camping under the stars, riding bikes, swimming in the sunshine, or laid-back conversations filled with laughter.
His love of nature, including camping, hiking, and spending time at the beach, were among his favorite ways to spend weekends and vacations. In his later years, he grew fond of bird watching, a hobby he pursued often, going so far as to name his favorite birds that regularly visited his home. In addition to his outdoor pursuits, Dave was a true music enthusiast. He loved and knew it all. When "Name That Tune" nights rolled around at the local bar, everyone wanted him on their team because they knew that meant they would win.
Dave was also known for his competitive spirit, especially on the softball, basketball, and volleyball courts, where he played on various city league teams in the earlier chapters of his life and contributed to multiple championship wins over the years. His competitive spirit could also be seen as he rooted on his favorite sports teams, the Oregon State Beavers, San Francisco 49ers, and Boston Celtics.
Throughout Dave's life, he touched the hearts of countless friends, family members, and colleagues, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, strength, compassion, and sweet stubbornness, as well as countless memories.
Dave's trademark stubbornness served him well when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2005, a battle he faced head on and won. Determined to make the most of it, he set out to learn two new crafts when the battle was behind him: playing the guitar and brewing beer. True to form, he accomplished both with dedication and pride. His fierce determination sustained him throughout the 14 years he fought Parkinson's disease as well.
Dave will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on in stories shared, the lessons he imparted, and the love he leaves behind.
Dave is survived by his wife, Kathy; sons, Michael McGowan (wife Katie), Justin Duguay (wife Andrea); daughter, Ashlee Dunbar (husband Travis); sister Dale Coker; grandchildren, Alexa, Carter, and Neil. He was predeceased by his parents, Don and Millie, and sister Donna Duguay.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 25 at Fisher Funeral Home in
Albany, Oregon at 11:00am. Reception to follow at Deluxe Brewing Company in Albany (635 NE Water Avenue). Family and friends are invited to gather, celebrate, and share memories.
