David Dulaney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Cremation Society of Iowa - Des Moines on Aug. 26, 2025.
David John Dulaney, born Oct 19th, 1943, in Rock Island, IL, passed away at home on August 26, 2025, surrounded by his wife and children.
He was driven and creative, curious and humble. His love of people, different cultures, and architecture inspired many travels around the world.
Dave had many accomplishments throughout his life and career as an architect, including being a founding partner of RDG. However, his greatest pride was the family he created. His children always felt and knew his unconditional love, and he played an active and integral part in his grandchildren's lives. His playful spirit and endless creativity made him the "fun" grandpa and great grandpa. His life was a success, no matter how you measure it.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Lou, his children Donna (James) Lukenbill, Tom (Monique) Dulaney and Mike (Dina) Dulaney, seven grandchildren, Susan (Austin) Podowski, Joe (Alex) Andreano, Nicole Lukenbill, Andy (Sam) Dulaney, Will Dulaney, Kelly Dulaney, Sean Dulaney and seven great grandchildren, Lucas Andreano, Jensen Andreano, Presley Podowski, Easton Andreano, Connor Andreano, Parker Podowski, and Thea Andreano. He also leaves behind beloved siblings, Donna Mullinax, Joan Collins, Dick Dulaney, Gary Dulaney, and Bill Dulaney.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Roe, and brother, Steven Dulaney.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Healthwell Foundation to the "Oncology – Multiple Myeloma – Medicare Access" fund.

A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.

Mary Lou, Sandy and I have treasured our friendship with you and Dave. We have loved him for his gentle heart and spirit of adventure which we experienced through our visits and travels together. Favorite memories always come flooding back when we recall our meeting at the Great Wall of China, our adventures in Egypt and Jordan, and our trapsing around Italy together. We recall fondly the personal tour he gave us at the state capital. With these and many other memories we share your sadness at his passing and celebrate his life that we shared so briefly with you both.

Dave had a genuine warmth and caring which he brought to the relationships with his large family, numerous friends, and which strongly influenced his professional approach to architecture. We so enjoyed the company of Dave and Mary Lou. He was a great lover of life and could tell stories like no one else. Dave's fellowship and humanity will be missed, and long remembered. I met Dave around 1974 and treasured our time working together and as friends. Dave was an exemplary leader. He always had time to assist others. Always and generously. We lost a wonderful contributor to our world.

Working with Dave at RDG was one of my highlights. Dave was always a quiet guy who spoke of his family with happiness and love. He was fun to visit after his retirement. We enjoyed listening to Mary Lou and Dave´s travel adventures. Dave will be missed but glad he has found peace!

What wonderful memories I have of my dear Brother. He was the best Brother anyone could want. I am so happy we were able to spend time together traveling. Miles kept us apart but our hearts were always connected.
